本研究主要在探討男人和女人在Facebook塗鴨牆上的談論主題和字彙使用。研究問題為: 一、在Facebook塗鴨牆上經常討論的話題是否有性別差異? 二、 在Facebook塗鴨牆上,女性是否比男性使用較多的空形容詞(empty adjectives),規避詞(hedges)及加強詞(intensifiers)? 三、在Facebook塗鴨牆上,談論主題和字彙使用是否有任何關係? 本研究對象主要為10名男性和10名女性的Facebook使用者。研究資料分為主題與字彙兩類,皆從20位研究對象的Facebook塗鴨牆收集而來。共有談話主題研究使用兩種技術:次數統計和分佈顯示來分析
資料。 本研究結果如下:(一) 在談論主題上,沒有非常明顯的性別差異。男性和女性參與者在塗鴨牆上提到共同最熱門的主題為:“個人經驗” ,“資訊與新聞”和“工作”,而女性談 “個人經驗”多於男性;男女性參與者最少談及“體育”和“政治”;對於“切身重要人物” 主題的討論,女性參與者明顯地較男性熱衷,此結果符合Coates (1993) 的研究。(二) 在字彙使用上,和過去研究相符合,女性明顯地使用較多數量和種類的空形容詞(empty adjectives),如 “可愛的”、 “愉快的”;規避詞(hedges)如 “有點”、 “可能”和加強詞(intensifiers)如 “很”、 “真的”
