 馮麗莎的《牡丹還魂記》是一本以中國為背景取材的小說,該書是從《吳吳山三婦合評牡丹亭》所改編,而其中《吳吳山三婦合評牡丹亭》則是對湯顯祖其中一部最著名的戲曲《牡丹亭》的評論。這是一本跨越生和死的愛情故事。少女為情所困導致的陰鬱而死投射出了女性的脆弱與壓抑。她們透由文學創作來捍衛情感的自由。《牡丹還魂記》發生於清朝時期。女主角牡丹雖出身官宦之家,她還是得服從於父母和社會對自己的期許。社會階級是嚴謹的,因其無法跨越仼何其他層級;而婚姻只能聽由父母的安排。牡丹就是因不滿愛情無自主權而死的。《牡丹還魂記》是牡丹在生前及死後共花了超過三十年的時間所完成的作品。愛情透過寫作超越了時間與空間的界限。  本
