工業物聯網(Industrial Internet of Things;簡稱IIOT)，是整個工業4.0發展的主要核心，為各個感測器與電腦和其他工業用設備以網路相連所形成的系統，目的是為了將人為的差異降到最低。藉由機器之間互享傳送訊息與設備的監控，工具機的分工與人機協作的方面，在現今工業物聯網中如果要實現工具機的分工與人機協作，需要讓工具機在準確的時間點做正確的事，因此時間同步在工業物聯網裡面扮演相當重要的角色。而現階段工業物聯網的同步精度要求為1ms。 NTP是由University of Delaware的David L.Mills設計，利用封包互傳來進行時間同步的一個網路協定。應

用於物聯網上，可以讓不同的機器均向同一個時間伺服器同步，進而達到機器與機器之間的同步。但現階段的所提供的NTP不管在有線網路或無線網路的環境下，皆會因為網路延遲與clock skew導致機器之間的同步誤差大於1ms。因此本論文提出優化與修正的NTP：去除run trip delay time過大之機制與補償clock skew，可使NTP在有線網路與無線網路的環境下其同步時間控制在1ms內。實驗環境為在場域內架設一台區域時間伺服器，以此模擬工廠內各工具機的時間同步。並將本論文所提出的方法與傳統NTP進行比較，在有線與無線的環境中，其同步時間控制在1ms內，符合工業物聯網對於時間精度的要求。
