As one of the global health concerns, WMSDs are a major public health concern globally, accounting for 42 to 58% of all work-related illnesses widespread in practically all occupations, with bus drivers being the occupation most commonly associated with WMSDs. There is evidence in the literature re

garding the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) among bus drivers; however, since relatively little research has been conducted on WMSD among Taiwanese bus drivers, the purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of WMSDs among bus drivers in the Taipei area and the

risk factors associated with them (individual and task characteristics). This study therefore employs the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) to investigate the bus drivers and identify the risk variables that may result in discomfort. The NMQ questionnaire was delivered to 145 Taiwanese bus

drivers in Taipei area. The results of logistic regression analysis revealed that the overall prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders symptoms in any body part was 78.3%, with the highest prevalence of body part being the neck (46.9%), followed by the right shoulder (40.0%), the lower back (37.2%),

and the left shoulder (33.8%), and all other body parts were less than 22.1%. Neck, shoulder, and lower back discomforts may be caused by psychological stress and an uncomfortable seat, whilst stretching exercises conducted between trips may help to alleviate neck and shoulder discomforts. The find

ings of the study suggested that local investigations emphasizing specific task arrangements and characteristics are needed to address the problem of musculoskeletal disorder in bus drivers.
