耐碳青黴烯類(carbapenem)抗生素的腸桿菌科(carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae,CRE)是目前臨床主要威脅之一,多數抗生素對CRE無抑制作用。部分菌株甚至會表現碳青黴烯酶(carbapenemase)分解carbapenem,稱為產碳青黴烯酶腸內菌(carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae,CPE)。且這類基因可在腸桿菌科之間互相傳遞,使得CPE的問題更顯嚴重。乳酸桿菌(Lactobacillus spp.)能產生乳酸及醋酸等有機酸、過氧化氫、抗菌胜肽等物質,進而抑制腸道內病原菌的生長,減少細菌

感染發生。根據實驗室先前的研究,乳酸桿菌以產生乳酸及醋酸降低酸鹼值,為主要的抑菌機轉。也測試不同的益生元(prebiotics)對乳酸桿菌產酸抑菌能力的影響。結果證實乳果糖及異麥芽寡糖對多數的乳酸桿菌具有較佳的產酸及抑菌效果。在本研究中我們將利用小鼠活體實驗,進一步來探討乳酸菌合併益生元,是否能在腸道中有效清除產碳青黴烯酶腸內菌。實驗動物選用BALB/c小鼠,首先測試CPE菌株及乳酸桿菌菌株在糞便中存留效果,接著再進行乳酸桿菌合併益生元對CPE的清除率測試。結果證實,CPE菌株能在小鼠糞便中存留至少達四週之久,且菌株數量可維持達105 CFU/ g,而初步測試的乳酸桿菌添加益生元可有效降低腸道

中的CPE,進一步的實驗將放大動物數量,確認此實驗結果。
